ARTIST STATEMENT by Tara McKinney

I travel to foreign lands to photograph places and faces. I photograph to reveal life as it happens, rather than waiting for the perfect light or for an individual to look into the lens. I am dedicated to documenting cultures I know little about, challenging myself to transform the unfamiliar into art. I have succeeded if the essence of the people and environment shine through in my photographs.
I believe every image is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Through this powerful medium I can savor a moment in time. Photography allows me to share the diversity of the world through my eyes.
